The defining features of this pattern are made by the irrigated farms of southwest Kansas and the Oklahoma Panhandle, smack in the middle of the Ghost Coast. The crops grown on those farms are made possible through the harvesting of ancient water from the Ogallala Aquifer - Fossil Water - the lifeblood of the Plains.
